The Ambassador of the Czech Republic Jiří Šitler visited Katrineholm on 28th September. There he met with the Mayor Göran Dahlström and the Deputy Mayor for education Johan Söderberg to become acquainted with the long-standing cooperation of Katrineholm and Karlovy Vary in many fields, except education for example in culture and or technical administration. This is the best instance of collaboration between Czech and Swedish cities on the level of cities and municipalities.
During the meeting with the Mayor, forms of economic cooperation and similarities of Czech and Swedish local policy were discussed. Teachers of pre-schools from Karlovy Vary area and their partners from Katrineholm were participating during the meeting, as well as the chairwoman of Culture Association of Katrineholm Jarmila Kocourková.
The Ambassador also visited a preparatory class of Nyhemsskola pre-school and attended an event which marks the 10th anniversary of the collaboration of both cities. Swedish children know some Czech fairytale characters like Krtek, which is the great friend of Swedish elf Troll. They also master basic Czech greetings and have many friends of the same age in Czechia. This project was appraised as the best one within the Comenius program by European Commission in 2014.
