Strategic cooperation agreement between the Czech leading producer of radars ERA Inc. and the Swedish company Saab AB

The Czech manufacturer of passive radar systems ERA Inc. signed a cooperation agreement in the research and development of radar technology for the air defense with the Swedish armament company Saab AB.

The company ERA is owned by Omnipol group since 2011 and is interested in entering the Swedish defense market in the context of the current goal of the Swedish Government to strengthen the country's defense. The long-term lease of Swedish supersonic Jas-39 Gripen contributed to the development of bilateral cooperation between the Czech and Swedish companies in the defense industry. The Swedish side appreciates especially the professionality and experience of the Czech pilots.

The Pardubice based company ERA, which belongs to the world leaders in the field of passive radars and its military production is used in many European and Asian countries, has been selected as the technology to support a comprehensive air defense system of NATO. ERA received orders to supply the civilian version of the system for airports in Scandinavia. For the Swedish partner, which focuses primarily on active radar devices,  signing a strategic cooperation agreement with the Czech leading producer means an opportunity to participate in research and development in the field of passive radars. SAAB is focused so far mainly on the active radar technology, but admits that passive systems have great potential for development and are important to complement the current existing active systems.

On May 18, 2016, there was a new model of the supersonic  JAS-Gripen 39E introduced at the SAAB headquarters in Linköping, with the participation of the Czech Ambassador Jiří Šitler. The ceremonial presentation was called "Evolution Gripen" and was attended by the Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist, Chairman of SAAB Marcus Wallenberg and CEO Håkan Buskhe. The Czech participation also included the commander of the Air Force of the Czech Army Brigade General Libor Štefánik, Defence Attaché of the Czech Republic in Sweden Colonel Milan Váňa and the commander of the 21st Tactical Air Force Base Colonel Petr Hromek. Air Force Commander Brigade General L. Štefánik gave on this occasion M. Wallenberg a set produced by the Czech company MOSER of the series President with motifs of Gripen. The event was also attended by a large delegation of the Air Force of Brazil and other foreign guests.
