Radek Matula

Date of Birth: February 17, 1964

Radek Matula has been working at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993, holding a number of managerial positions both at the headquarters and at embassies abroad. He spent nine years in Moscow, five of them as Deputy Head of Mission. He was responsible for establishing the Czech Embassy in Baku, where he first served as a non-resident and later as the first Czech resident Ambassador to Azerbaijan. He headed the Embassy in Kyiv for almost seven years. Following the evacuation of the Embassy in February 2022 in connection with the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he returned to Kyiv in May 2022 and continued to lead the Embassy until the end of October 2023.

In August 2025, he was posted to Sweden, where on 11 September 2025 he presented his credentials to His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and thereby officially assumed his duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Sweden.
