The visit was part of the economic diplomacy activities
On the 5th of October 2017 the Deputy Head of mission of the Embassy of the Czech Republic Mr. Jaroslav Kamas, and the Director of CzechTrade Agency in Sofia, Mrs. Martina Paříková, visited Veliko Tarnovo as a follow-up to a previous visit by the Czech Ambassador H.E. Dušan Štrauch earlier this year. The purpose of the visit in the town of Veliko Tarnovo was to establish whether there is an opportunity for possible cooperation between Czech and local companies from the town and the region. The Czech representatives were first received by the Regional Governor of Veliko Tarnovo Mrs. Lubomira Popova and the Deputy Regional Governor Mrs. Detelina Borissova. They then met with Deputy Mayor of Veliko Turnovo on Economic Affairs Mrs. Snezhana Daneva and her associates.
The topics of the meetings were ecology, waste management, water purification, construction of sewerage facilities in small settlements and introduction of electric buses in urban transport.
Opportunities for Czech investments in the field of machine building and in food industry were presented on both of the meetings. In this connection, the representatives of the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo informed the guests that a FairDeal project is being prepared within the framework of the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria 2014-2020 program for the construction of an electronic platform for sale and advertising of agricultural products. The project is aimed at promoting trade in the food industry, allowing foreign subjects to participate in it as well.
The possibility of testing new models of electric buses produced in the Czech Republic by the company SOR was also discussed at the meetings. The Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo is preparing a project for introduction of electric buses in order to develop tourism in the town, which will be financed by OP "Regions in Growth 2014-2020".
The Bulgarian side has also expressed interest in finding a solution to the problem with household wastewater in remote settlements, which do not have sewers.
