BTL Completes the Largest Czech Investment in Bulgarian Industry Since 1989

On Wednesday, 19 June 2025, the grand opening of a new factory of the Czech company BTL Industries took place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. This represents the largest Czech foreign investment since 1989 and also the largest investment by a Czech company in Bulgaria ever. Its value has exceeded 100 million Bulgarian leva (approximately 1.3 billion CZK or 52 million EUR).

The BTL Company, a leading global manufacturer of medical equipment, continues its strategy of long-term growth and strengthening of production capacities in Central and Eastern Europe. The new site, covering more than 29,000 m², represents a state-of-the-art facility characterised by the use of automated systems and robotics, with minimal impact on the surrounding environment. This makes the Czech project a technological and environmental model for future initiatives. The opening of the plant will create up to 500 new jobs for highly qualified workers, thereby significantly contributing to the economic development of the region. Moreover, the facility introduces a new standard in employee care, offering canteens, relaxation zones, a park, and sports facilities.

From the Czech Republic’s perspective, this investment is not only economically significant but also represents an important confirmation of the global standard of Czech investors, which will contribute in the long term to the strengthening of bilateral diplomatic and cultural relations between the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Bulgarian President Rumen Radev captured this effect well during his speech at the ceremonial opening, when he highlighted BTL’s activities as a model of successful and innovative entrepreneurship and added: “ This investment represents a model which we want the entire Bulgarian economy to become.”

The BTL project in Plovdiv is further proof that Czech know-how has global potential. At the same time, it represents an example of responsible business, combined with top-tier technology, care for employees, and a sustainable approach to the environment. We hope that this investment will serve as an inspiration for other Czech companies looking for opportunities to grow on international markets.

For this reason, a ceremonial session of the Bulgarian-Czech Chamber of Commerce, of which BTL is a member, was held on the same day in the administrative area of the factory. The Bulgarian-Czech Chamber of Commerce, founded in autumn 2024, is a voluntary association of business entities that are already active or interested in operating in both countries. Its mission is to facilitate trade relations between the two countries, support Czech companies wishing to invest in Bulgaria, and also assist Bulgarian firms interested in entering the Czech market. The organisation aspires to become a bridge between the business sectors and governments of both countries and will strive to create a more favourable business environment and open up new opportunities for cooperation.
