Interpreters and Translators

Who is a Court Translator?
The conditions for performing the activities of a translator/interpreter are stipulated by the Law No. 354/2019 Coll. on court interpreters and court translators, as amended. The official interpreting activity in the Czech Republic may be performed by interpreters and translators registered in the list of interpreters and translators, maintained by the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic after completing the entry exam provided and organized by the Judicial Academy and after fulfilling other conditions.

Court interpreters/translators are authorized to translate official documents (marriage certificates, certificates, university diplomas, court filings, judgements etc.) and also to interpret in court (e.g. during the questioning the litigation participants or witnesses), in police stations (when giving explanation, after being arrested) or before administrative authorities (e.g. during customs inspections). The registered court translators/interpreters are authorized to imprint their translator or interpreter seal or their qualified electronic signature, as well as qualified electronic time stamp to their translations, and thereby certify that the translation is correct.

Translations may be performed by a court translator registered in the list of interpreters and translators of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic.

The list of officially registered translators is located on the web page of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic https://tlumocnici.justice.cz and https://seznat.justice.cz
