Visit of Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament in October 2024

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, made an official visit to Singapore. She held talks with her counterpart Seah Kian Peng and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on strengthening bilateral cooperation and opportunities for increased economic exchange. The parliamentary delegation was also accompanied by a business mission aimed at entering the promising Singaporean market and deepening trade relations within the Southeast Asia region.

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, began her Southeast Asia tour with an official visit to Singapore. The parliamentary delegation, which includes the Chairman of the Chamber’s Security Committee Pavel Žáček, Vice-Chairman of the Defence Committee Josef Flek, and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy Róbert Teleky, discussed closer inter-parliamentary cooperation with Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Singaporean legislature. The mutual relations between the two countries were further discussed during a meeting with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

"Czech-Singapore relations have long been at an excellent level. Our cooperation is developing in many areas – from advanced technologies, education, cybersecurity to environmental protection and, more recently, artificial intelligence. Therefore, our visit is an another step towards even closer collaboration and an invitation for potential Singaporean investors to explore opportunities in our country." said Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová.

The parliamentary delegation was also accompanied by a business mission from the Czech Chamber of Commerce, specifically focused on sectors such as information technology, cybersecurity, smart city solutions, logistics, and aviation.

"Last year alone, the total value of our mutual trade exceeded 20 billion CZK. This year, we are likely to increase that figure even further. Singapore is a significant trading partner for us, offering a wealth of lucrative opportunities for our export-oriented companies and entrepreneurs, while also serving as the gateway to the promising markets of all Southeast Asia." added Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová.

From Singapore, the delegation moved on to the Philippines, where they will engage in discussions on inter-parliamentary and economic cooperation with high-level political figures and business leaders.
