On 17–18 April 2026, another edition of the flagship European Union cultural event, EU Cultural Street, took place in Hangzhou, China. Following previous editions in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu, the event has become one of the key platforms of European cultural diplomacy in China. This year’s edition was held in the modern district of Qianjiang New City under the motto “One Street, Many Stories”, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the culture of all 27 EU Member States in one place. The Czech participation was coordinated by the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Shanghai.
The event attracted more than 25,000 visitors, who had the opportunity over the course of two days to explore European traditions, sample regional products including Czech beer Budějovický Budvar, and take part in interactive activities, including the popular EU Passport stamp-collecting system.
The accompanying cultural programme on the main stage also drew great interest, featuring a wide range of musical performances and ranking among the main highlights of the event. Czechia was represented by Czech piano virtuoso Richard Pohl, whose performance was among the most attended and received a very warm response from the audience.
Students from the local Zhejiang International Studies University also contributed to the organization of the event, including students of the Czech language, who assisted with communication with visitors and made a significant contribution to the successful delivery of the entire programme.
The event was covered by more than 20 media outlets and generated approximately 200 media outputs, including television reports, online articles and short videos, which vividly conveyed the atmosphere of the event to audiences across China.
Once again, the event confirmed that similar formats have strong potential to bring European culture closer to the Chinese public and to strengthen awareness of the European way of life.
