Pilsen Secondary School Students at WorldSkills 2026 in Shanghai

Secondary school students from the Pilsen Region took part in WorldSkills 2026 in Shanghai in September this year, the world’s largest showcase of vocational skills. During their visit, Consul General Jindřich Kubovský and Economic Diplomat Jan Kubačka met with the Pilsen Region delegation and the event coordinators to discuss not only their experience with the WorldSkills programme, but also the further development of vocational education in the region.

The Pilsen secondary school students travelled to China as part of the DRESS UP & STAY HOME programme, through which the Pilsen Region enables its students to experience prestigious international events, gain international exposure and learn about the latest trends in their fields. They are expected to draw on these experiences in their further professional development and contribute to the development of the region.

This year’s edition of the programme followed last year’s pilot edition, when selected secondary school students from the Pilsen Region travelled to Japan.

At the recently concluded 48th edition of WorldSkills in Shanghai, often referred to as the “Olympics of skills”, 1,385 young people from 68 countries and regions competed in 64 disciplines. Approximately 80 students from the Pilsen Region attended the event as observers.

During the visit, representatives of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Shanghai had an opportunity to discuss with the Pilsen delegation the further development of vocational education in the region and possibilities for broader Czech participation in the WorldSkills platform.

The Pilsen project demonstrates how a regional initiative can give students first-hand experience of a major international event, introduce them to new trends in their fields and motivate them to pursue further professional development.
