Wenzhou promotes imports and offers interesting business opportunities

After major trade fairs in China's largest business hub Shanghai, the business community moved to the southeast of China to the city of Wenzhou, the birthplace and centre of Chinese private enterprise. Wenzhou hosted the sixth edition of the fair specializing in imported goods, which also featured Czech companies.

The 6th Wenzhou International Import Expo was held from 22-24 November, attracting a larger number of exhibitors each year, including foreign exhibitors.

The Czech stand traditionally featured Czech glass and jewellery manufacturers as well as a producer of drinking bottled water, whose official presentation opened the second day of the fair. The opening ceremony was also attended by a representative of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Shanghai, who visited and supported the Czech exhibitors at the Czech stand.

The city of Wenzhou is a major port city on the southeast coast of China and with its more than 9 million inhabitants is one of the three most economically developed areas in Zhejiang Province.

This year's edition hosted over 400 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions and attracted 25,000 visitors. Among the largest non-Chinese exhibitors were companies and national booths from Australia, Canada, France, Thailand, Malaysia and Slovakia.

The city, which has earned a number of adjectives in the past as the birthplace or simultaneous centre of the private economy represents an interesting alternative for foreign consumer goods with its promotion of imports.  In the past two years, the city has opened several import platforms, including an import promotion and innovation zone. In 2023, thanks to these activities, the value of imports also increased by more than 25% year-on-year.
