Among a host of trade fairs and exhibitions, the International Children's Book Fair, the leading event of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region focusing on children's and young adult literature, was held in Shanghai last week. The Czech Republic was also represented at this event and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Shanghai was there.
The 11th CCBF Children's Book Fair in Shanghai is not only a leading centre for children's book copyright, but also a useful platform offering exciting marketing solutions and collaborations for a wider range of industries.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Chinese organizers with the largest children's literature fair in Bologna, CCBF was able to bring two Czech representatives to the event.
The family publishing house Boabob publishes mainly contemporary illustrated books for children and took home three awards from the Bologna fair, including the winning non-fiction book Myko. Paseka, one of the first private publishing houses after the Velvet Revolution, also found its place in the section of foreign exhibitors. The publishing house presented its mainly comic titles, including the very popular in the Czech Republic title Prašina. Both publishers met not only with Chinese partners but also with other representatives of the Asia-Pacific region.
This year's edition attracted 497 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions. Over 40,000 visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with more than 20,000 new titles.
Czech books are historically renowned for their high quality printing, excellent illustrations, graphic design and text, and this event proved that they can appeal to readers all over the world.
