Czech volunteer – Ms. Petra Kudlíková – spent three months during the summer of 2010 in a small orphanage in the city of Yeongwol in Gangwon province. About twenty children in the age between the age of 9 and 21 had chance to learn some English, to get to know different countries and cultures and enjoy many free-time activities thanks to Czech, Russian and Korean volunteers. Most of the children has also learnt some popular Czech children’s games from the Czech volunteer and all of them now know where the Czech Republic is situated. And in order not to forget about it, Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul donated two dozens books into their library – mostly Korean translations of Czech children’s books, from famous Mole (“Krteček”) to books by Peter Sís and Helena Zmatlíková.
Inex-Sda (www.inexsda.cz), which organized this voluntary work, is a non-governmental non-profit organization whose primary activities are in the area of international voluntary work. Every year the organization sends about 700 Czech volunteers all around the world and vice-versa offers projects for foreign volunteers in the Czech Republic. In the Republic of Korea there were only three Czech volunteers so far, whereas the first two worked in alternative schools.
