Presentation on the Czech Republic and relations with the EU, Czechia and Latvia at Bauska State Gymnasium

On 28 April, to celebrate the anniversary of the accession of the Czech Republic and the Republic of Latvia to the EU and Europe Day, as well as part of the activity "Back to School" organised by the European Commission Representation in Latvia, Marta Hušková, First Secretary of the Embassy, visited Bauska State Gymnasium to introduce the students with the Czech Republic, its role in the EU and to present the political, cultural and economic relations between the Czech Republic and Latvia.

On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the accession to the European Union by the Czech Republic and the Republic of Latvia on 1 May 2004 and Europe Day that is held on 9 May, and as part of the EC Representation's in Latvia activity “Back to School” M. Hušková attractively presented her country and engaged young people in an interactive conversation. In her presentation, the Deputy Head of Mission introduced them with the Czech Republic, described the links between the Czech Republic and Latvia in the fields of politics, culture, tourism, and economic cooperation.

The students of the gymnasium actively participated in the discussion and answered questions about the geographical, economic, and cultural realities of the Czech Republic. At the end of the presentation, many pupils took the opportunity to ask their questions related not only to the topic of the presentation, but also to the possibilities to study in the Czech Republic or regarding the work of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Latvia.

The visit at the gymnasium was followed by a meeting with the representatives of Bauska municipal council, during which both sides discussed possible cooperation between the embassy and the city within the framework of the upcoming Czech EU Presidency in the second half of 2022. The choice of Bauska for this presentation was no coincidence. On one hand, Bauska is an active partner city of the Czech city of Náchod, and on the other hand, Czech experts, architect Miloslav Hanzl and restorer Miloš Gavenda, have made a significant contribution to the reconstruction of Bauska Castle – a landmark of the city and an important Latvian monument.
