
The Crossing got the Best Film Award at One World in Brussels

The Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU hosted on 27 April 2016 a closing ceremony, which concluded the 10th edition of the One World Film Festival in Brussels. The International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights, which took place in Brussels from 18 to 27 April, were attended by the total of 1,934 people.
The festival presented a selection of 14 films from the programme of One World 2016 in Prague. The jury awarded The Crossing by George Kurian as the best film. Special mentions go to The Trials of Spring directed by Gini Reticker and Back Home directed by Inna Denisova.
For the audience, the most attractive film was The Babushkas from Chernobyl attended by 300 people. The opening film was Belgian documentary No Man Is an Island, that was introduced in the Belgian premiere.
The screenings were followed by discussions with distinguished guests, among whom were for example Taslima Nasreen, laureate of the Sakharov Prize in 1994, Salih Osman, laureate of the Sakharov Prize 2007, Femke van Velzen, the director of the film A Haunting History, David Bernet, the director of the film Democracy and Jan Philipp Albrecht, Member of the European Parliament and the protagonist of the film Democracy.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Vaclav Havel, the document Vaclav Havel - A Life in Freedom, was added to the program.
The International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights, which took place in Brussels from 18 to 27 April, were attended by the total of 1,934 people. The Festival One World is a part of the EU iniciative #EU4HumanRights.
