A commemorative evening at the Permanent Representation to the EU will start at 18:30 with an opening of the 40th International Children’s Art Exhibition Lidice.

Milena Vicenová, Ambassador to the EU, together with Vladimír Remek, MEP, and Ivona Kasalická, Head of the Lidice Memorial Gallery, will present award-winning artistic creations.

Before moving to the Czech Permanent Representation, this exhibition is first hosted by the European Parliament under the auspices of Vladimír Remek, MEP, in early June.

The Children’s Art Exhibition Lidice was founded in 1967 to commemorate children from the Czech village of Lidice, murdered by the Nazis in June 1942, as well as all other children who have died during different war conflicts. In 1973, the exhibition became international with around 25,000 high-quality works of art sent every year by children from up to 70 countries around the globe.

In this 40th anniversary year, four young artists from the Belgian Katholieke KCD Centrumschool in Denderleeuw won an award.

The opening of the exhibition will be followed by a screening of the film LIDICE at 19:15. The Czech director Petr Nikolaev shot it in 2011 based on a screenplay Nocturne by Zdeněk Mahler, which won the Czech Lion 2007 prize for (then) the Best Unrealized Screenplay.
