One World, the world's largest human rights film festival, will fill the cinemas in Brussels for the 18th time. The festival is organised annually by the Czech humanitarian and human rights organisation People in Need. Together with other Brussels partners, including the European Parliament, the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU and the Czech Centre Brussels, will present 10 prime human rights films from 7 – 11 April 2025.
The One World Festival has been an important part of People in Need's activities for more than 20 years. Since its founding in 1999, it has brought human rights documentaries from around the world to local audiences and screened them in dozens of cities across the Czech Republic. The festival has won numerous awards, including the UNESCO Human Rights Awareness Award.
This year, the audience will have the opportunity to watch 10 selected films, 9 of which will be accompanied by expert debates. The on-stage discussions will feature insights from human rights activists, politicians, filmmakers and representatives of the international NGO community.
The opening night of the festival will be dedicated to the film Night is not eternal, a riveting documentary about activist Rosa María Payá and her struggle against the Cuban communist regime.
The opening will take place on April 7 at the Cinema Galeries.
