
Exhibition “Professor Alois Musil alias Sheikh Musa” Presenting Life and Work of Czech Scholar and Explorer Through a Comics on Display at Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem

On 2 October 2023, the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah and the Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem opened the art exhibition “Professor Alois Musil alias Sheikh Musa”.
The exhibition was launched by the head of the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah, Mr. Jakub Šlosárek, and the rector and founder of Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem, Rev. Prof. Dr. Mitri Raheb. In his opening remarks, the Head of the Representative Office Jakub Šlosárek introduced the fascinating life story and work of the Czech scholar and explorer Prof. Alois Musil, which was captured in a comics by the young Czech illustrator Kristýna Košutová.
Professor Alois Musil is known in the region by his honorary title Sheikh Musa, which he earned during his numerous travels, when he stayed among the Bedouins. During an expedition in 1898 in present-day Jordan, he discovered an early Islamic monument, the desert castle of Qusayr Amra with unique fresco paintings.
The exhibition “Professor Alois Musil alias Sheikh Musa” is on display at Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem until 2 November 2023.
