Czechia donated a new fire truck to the Palestinian firefighters

Colonel Radek Stránský, Commander of the Prague Castle Firefighting Protection Unit, representing the Director General of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic, handed over a Czech gift to the Palestinian Civil Defence on 27 July 2021 – the newest Czech-made fire truck.

The ceremony took place in the square in front of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, with the participation of the Head of the Representative Office Petr Starý, and the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Bethlehem Samir Hazbun. From the Palestinian side, the ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Bethlehem Anton Salman, the Governor of Bethlehem Kamel Humeid, representatives of the Palestinian Civil Defense, the police and other institutions. Palestinian officials agreed that the truck was not only a gift to the Palestinian firefighters but, more importantly, to the residents of Bethlehem and the surrounding area, whose health and property will now be better protected.

In his speech, Colonel Stránský recalled that the idea of cooperation appeared for the first time in 2017, when Israel was hit by forest fires, that were extinguished with help of the Palestinian firefighters. As a response to this natural disaster, the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Repulic decided to donate a fire truck to the Israeli firefighters and, subsequently, to support their Palestinian counterparts in the same way. The vehicle is a large-capacity Tatra Water Tender CAS 30, with a capacity of 9000 litres. The chassis, as well as the fire truck body were made in Czechia.
