The 16th International Agrokos Fair was held from 20 to 22 October 2016 in Pristina. Agrokos Fair was attended by 135 Kosovo companies and neighborhood countries of the region West Balkan, Turkey and the Czech Republic. One of the successful exhibitors was the Czech company TECO with its leading technology system for animal and plant production. A part of the event was the Medical Fair focused on the health and spas, which was attended by 13 companies.
The Agrokos Fair was opened by the deputy minister of Agriculture Mr. Kurtan Kajtasi and by the deputy minister of Health Mr. Izet Sadiku. More than 8.600 visitors, including both the experts from the agriculture, food processing and health sector (62 %) as well as non-professional visitors, attended the event. The companies primarily presented their agricultural, fruit and vegetable production. The companies supplying technical and technological equipment for agro-production, fertilizers and animal food attended too. This year smaller farms presenting organic foods also took part in the event. Furthermore, some companies with examples of processes in the food sector - the packaging, labeling, filling, processing, transport, refrigeration and food quality control- have been represented there.
In recent years, gradual changes of attitude towards work and private enterprise in agriculture have occurred in Kosovo. More and more young people are interested in the Agro-business, especially on small family farms. The Kosovo government and the international donors intend to increase significantly their subsidies into agriculture and food production in 2017. This will especially support the horticulture, the use of quality seedlings / seeds, the construction of greenhouses, the processing of agricultural production and the introduction of advanced food technologies (especially the packing line). This creates more export and investment opportunities for the application of agricultural technologies and products from the Czech Republic in Kosovo.
One of the most successful exhibitors was the Czech TECO, Inc. with production control systems that are used in industrial automation. Kosovo may be interested in the technology management of the animal and crop production created by the company Teco. The fair visitors, who are accustomed to traditional ways of farming, were interested in the technologically oriented presentation by TECO. According to the deputy commercial director Petr Ovčáček, the participation of the company at the fair in Pristina was targeted at an expansion of market outlets. Kosovo is an unknown destination for the company; nevertheless the Teco products may still find their way to Kosovar customers in the near future. The manager of the Czech company Češki Sladoled (which supplies ice cream machines and ice cream mixes) Pavel Šandera also visited the Agrokos. He came to evaluate the sales potential in Kosovo and the possibility of participation in the Agrokos 2017.
The Czech Embassy in Pristina along with the project of economy diplomacy and in cooperation with the agricultural diplomat in Belgrade is preparing a joint participation of the Czech companies at the Agrokos Fair 2017, which will be held in Pristina from 18 to 20 October 2017.
