Vacancy Announcement: Trade and Industry Specialist of the Economic and Commercial Section

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria seeks qualified candidates to apply for the position of Trade and Industry Specialist within its Economic and Commercial Section accredited to South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Lesotho and Namibia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively identify business and investment opportunities beneficial to Czech companies.
  • Facilitate professional and strategic communication between enterprises and institutions in Czechia and accredited countries.
  • Conduct comprehensive market and sector-specific analyses.
  • Represent the Embassy at trade shows, industry exhibitions, and online conferences, establishing and nurturing relevant professional contacts.
  • Develop and maintain a sector-specific contact database comprising companies and institutions from Czechia and accredited countries.
  • Engage proactively with relevant governmental departments, agencies, and industry associations to build, maintain, and strengthen long-term relationships.
  • Coordinate logistical and substantive arrangements for incoming and outgoing trade delegations.
  • Organize business promotion events and related activities.
  • Regularly draft and publish sector-specific and economic news articles on the Embassy’s official website.
  • Manage and update social media platforms with relevant economic and commercial content.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Economic and Commercial Section and other Embassy sections as required.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalent) in Economics, International Trade, Law, International Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Work Experience:

  • Progressive professional experience in international trade, economic and sectoral analysis, law, international relations, or related fields pertinent to the Southern African business environment is required.

Language Proficiency:

  • Essential: Fluency (oral and written) in English
  • Desirable: Working proficiency in Portuguese and/or French

Selection Process:

Applications will undergo thorough review. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a competency-based interview and additional assessments if deemed necessary. Final appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a security background check by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

Commencement Date:

The appointed candidate is expected to begin duties as Trade and Industry Specialist on
1 August 2025.
