About the Embassy

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria is accredited to 9 countries: Republic of South Africa, Kingdom of Lesotho, Kingdom of Eswatini, Republic of Angola, Republic of Botswana, Republic of Madagascar, Republic of Mauritius, Republic of Mozambique and the Republic of Namibia.

Ambassador also represents the Czech Republic at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in Gaborone.

Honorary Consulates in Gaborone (Botswana), Port Louis (Mauritius),  Maputo (Mozambique), and Luanda (Angola) provide information on the Czech Republic, further the development of the relations and facilitate contacts between the Czech Republic and the receiving country. They provide basic information about the laws and regulations of the receiving state. The honorary consulates, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria, assist Czech nationals present in the receiving country in cases of need (namely in cases of illness, accident and loss of travel documents or money). When approved by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria the honorary consulates issue emergency travel documents to Czech citizens (in the case of the loss or theft of the passports). The honorary consulates make sure that the applicable international treaties and laws and regulations of the receiving state are respected in relation to Czech nationals who have been arrested, taken in custody or imprisoned. The honorary consulates also authenticate signatures, copies (photocopies) of documents and translations. They may receive from Czech nationals for safekeeping papers and other documents, money, valuables and securities. The honorary consulates do not issue visa for travelling to the Czech Republic.

The MFA´s responsibilities in this area are set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Personal Data Protection Act.
