EU-Canada Summit in Prague

The EU-Canada Summit will take place in Prague on May 6, 2009. In accordance with the conclusions of the last Summit, the leaders of the EU and Canada are expected to launch negotiations toward a deepened economic partnership agreement. The EU and Canada are also expected to sign the Aviation Services Agreement. Both Agreements will significantly increase job opportunities, trade and revenues on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Summit will also address approaches to economic and financial crisis, climate change and regional conflicts, issues in which both the EU and Canada are taking active role.

PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME

  • 8:30-8:40 opening ceremony in the garden of the Kramář Villa in Prague
  • 8:40 – 8:55 private meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Canada, office of the Prime Minister, the Kramář villa
  • 8:55 – 9:00 bilateral meetings of the delegations, office of the Prime Minister in the Kramář Villa
  • 9:10 - 9:15 signing of the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement signed by Finance Ministers S. Day and M. Kalousek, Great Dining Hall: Kramář Villa
  • 9:25-10:15 Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Canada and President of the European Commission take part in the business forum, Mandarín Hotel
  • 10:30 – 11:10 meeting of the Prime Minister of Canada with President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus

Departure for the Liechtenstein Palace for the EU-Canada Summit

  • 11:10 – 11:35 coordination meeting between the EU /the Czech Presidency, Mr. Barroso, Mr. Solana , Film Hall
  • 11:40 family photo, Masaryk Hall, the Liechtenstein Palace
  • 11:45-12:05 private meeting, Blue Lounge photo opportunity
  • 12:10 - 13:40 plenary meeting and lunch for the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, the Prime Minister of Canada, the President of the European Commission and the Secretary General of the Council, Golden Hall, Liechtenstein Palace
  • 13:45 - 13:50 signing of Agreement on Civil Aviation Safety between the European Union and Canada, Press Hall, Liechtenstein Palace
  •  Signing of the Joint Declaration on the Agreement on Civil Aviation between Canada and the European Union, Press Hall – atrium, Liechtenstein Palace/ Note: the agreements will be signed without presence of media representatives
  • 14: 15-14:40 press conference at the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, Press Hall, Straka Academy
