Drumming for Bubny in Ottawa

On October 16, 2018, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ottawa hosted the commemoration event of Drumming for Bubny for the tragic anniversary of the commencement of transports of the Jewish population in Prague in 1941.
The event took place in cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Israel and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA). In the past, similar events were held in other European and non-European cities and this anniversary is commemorated by the Prague residents at Bubny Railway station, right at the departure point for transports.
Remembrance event was attended by significant personalities of Canadian political life at the Embassy, including the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament Geoff Regan, MPs, ambassadors, important compatriots and representatives of the Canadian government. This event was also attended by Czech delegation of the Committee on European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, led by Tomáš Hanzel, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, and Committee Chairman Ondřej Benešík, who gave a short speech.
During the evening, the prominent Canadian percussionist Jesse Stewart, who besides his own instrumentation, prepared an interactive performance with the audience.
Ambassador Pavel Hrnčíř presented the project of the Memorial of Silence in Prague to the participants of the evening. The presentation was accompanied by a screening of the photographs which had been kindly received from the Memorial of Silence, Bubny.
