To file an application for a Schengen visa or a long-term visa / residence permit, schedule an appointment.

Family members of EU citizens: to schedule an appointment, contact the consulate by e-mail: nairobi.visa@mzv.gov.cz. Indicate clearly (in the subject of the e-mail) that you are a family member of an EU citizen and attach a document to this effect. 

The consulate provides visa services by appointment only. Do schedule your appointment sufficiently in advance of your travel: Schengen visas – at least 3 weeks before the travel, long-term visa / residence permit – at least 3 months before the travel.

Visa collection: per instructions of the consulate; upon collecting the long-term visa, present a proof that you have bought travel medical insurance covering the duration of the visa

TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nairobi accepts Schengen visa and long-term visa / residence permit applications of citizens of Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and long-term / permanent residents in these countries.

Citizens of these countries need a visa for short-term (up to 90 days) and long-term (over 90 days) stays in Czechia / Schengen Area.

Citizens of Burundi can file Schengen visa applications also at an Embassy of Belgium in Bujumbura, which represents Czechia for Schengen visas  processing in Burundi.

Citizens of Tanzania can file Schengen visa applications also at an Embassy of France in Dar Es-Salaam, which represents Czechia for Schengen visas  processing in Tanzania.

Citizens of Uganda can file Schengen visa applications also at an Embassy of France in Kampala, which represents Czechia for Schengen visas  processing in Uganda.

Applicants who are residents, but not citizens, in Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda can apply for a long-term visa / residence permit at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nairobi only if they have resided in these countries for at least the past 2 years. When registering your appointment, do attach a copy of your residence permit. If you do not fulfil this condition, do file your application in your home country. Please pay close attention to the visa information on this website and do not e-mail us with requests for general information that is available on the website.

The consulate communicates with the public by e-mail. We usually reply to specific e-mail inquiries within 7 days.

The consulate does not provide phone consultations on visas. Please send us an e-mail.

The consulate does not provide information on visa application status during the legal review period.

Applicants for Schengen visas may collect their passport with the decision on the 14th day after submitting the application. The consulate notifies the applicants for long-term visas as soon as the decision is made. You can check the status of your long-term visa / residence permit application here.

Complaint according to Art. 47(1)(j) as specified in Art. 38(5) of the Visa Code can be sent to the e-mail address nairobi.visa@mzv.gov.cz.

The consulate does not use social networks to communicate about visas.

FEES

Visa / residence permit fees for filing an application are collected upon application submission by card or in cash in Euros (EUR).

LANGUAGE

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nairobi communicates in Czech and English when processing visa and residence permit applications. If the applicant understands neither of these languages, he/she must arrange for an interpreter when applying for a long-term visa / residence permit, at his/her costs. Examinations are conducted in Czech only. If the applicant does not speak Czech, he/she must arrange for an interpreter for the purposes of examination, at his/her cost.
