UN Human Rights Council Concludes Its 63rd Regular Session

The United Nations Human Rights Council today concluded its 63rd regular session, which took place from 7 September to 7 October. The Czech Republic participated in the session as one of the Council’s 47 members with voting rights.

As a member of the Slavkov Format, the Czech Republic delivered a joint statement on combating antisemitism in the context of artificial intelligence, which was supported by a total of 53 countries.

Throughout the session, the Czech Republic actively participated in interactive dialogues, general debates and a panel discussion, addressing its longstanding priorities, particularly the human rights situations in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, as well as the right to equal participation. In its national capacity, the Czech Republic delivered a total of 12 statements in the Council plenary.

As a member of the European Union, the Czech Republic co-sponsored three resolutions concerning the human rights situations in Afghanistan, Burundi and, for the first time, Russia. The resolution on Russia extends the mandate of the Special Rapporteur for one year, ensuring the continuation of monitoring the domestic human rights situation and the regular reporting of objective findings on developments in Russia.

Together with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and civil society organizations, the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic organized a side event on the impact of digital technologies on electoral processes. In addition, together with the Permanent Mission of Ukraine, it organized a side event on Russian drone attacks, focusing on the humanitarian response.

At the conclusion of the session, the Council adopted 34 resolutions, two decisions and one Presidential Statement. Of these, 10 were adopted by vote, while the remaining texts were adopted by consensus.
