The UN Human Rights Council concludes its 55th session, which lasted six weeks. During the last week, Permanent Representative Václav Bálek delivered a national address on the situation in Ukraine in an interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights. In his speech, he addressed the impact of the Russian aggression in Ukraine on civilians and in particular on Ukrainian children who face Russian indoctrination in temporarily occupied territories or deportations in violation of international humanitarian law.
The Council adopted thirty two resolutions, of which twenty were adopted by consensus and twelve by vote. A total of twelve mandates of the Special Rapporteurs and Independent Experts on the human rights situations in Belarus, Iran, the DPRK, Myanmar, Syria, Mali, South Sudan and Haiti were extended, as well as the mandate of the fact-finding mission on Iran and the Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine. The Council newly established a group of three independent experts with a mandate of inquiry on Belarus. The mandates of the Special Rapporteurs on clean, healthy and sustainable environment, on privacy and on cultural rights were prolonged as well.
