Review of the Czech Republic’s 7th Periodic Report on the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)

On 11 February, the oral examination of the Czech Republic’s 7th periodic report on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) took place in Geneva. The Czech Republic was represented by an interministerial delegation led by the Government Office of the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic is among the 189 States Parties to the Convention and is therefore subject to regular reviews of its implementation. The review of the Czech Republic took place after ten years.
Members of the delegation answered questions from the Committee in relation to the competencies of their respective ministries. The questions focused primarily on strengthening access to legal protection in cases of discrimination, legislative changes relating to advertising, support and integration of Ukrainian refugee women and children, protection against violence, and measures to promote equal representation in decision‑making positions and to reduce labour‑market inequalities.
In their responses, representatives of the individual ministries outlined developments in recent years, including new programmes and legislative changes.
Following the oral review, the Committee will prepare a report with recommendations, which will be shared and monitored in the coming years.
The review of the Czech Republic took place within the framework of the 92nd session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, held from 2 to 20 February, which also includes the review of seven other countries: Argentina, El Salvador, Iraq, Viet Nam, Lesotho, Lithuania, and the Netherlands.
