On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic in Geneva joined the tradition of informal breakfasts and organized a discussion on the impact of sea level rise on human rights. The debate was led by Prof. Veronika Bílková, Head of the Department of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Charles University.
The event was intended for selected members of the UN Human Rights Council with whom the Czechia will cooperate in 2026. Prof. Bílková presented cases addressed by the UN Human Rights Committee and analyzed the rights and vulnerable groups most at risk.
The event was also attended by Elisa Fornalé, editor of the publication Sea Level Rise: Implications for Human Rights, Security and Peace, to which Prof. Bílková contributed a chapter on human rights.
In the afternoon, the Mission organized a briefing on the functioning of the OSCE Moscow Mechanism, in which Prof. Bílková participated as an independent expert in all missions to Ukraine. The discussion focused on comparing experiences from OSCE regional mechanisms with those operating in Geneva.
Both events were introduced and moderated by Deputy Permanent Representative Gabriela Boiteux Pilná.
