UN Human Rights Council concludes its 58th session

The UN Human Rights Council today concluded its 58th session, which ran from 24 February to 4 April. Czechia returned to the HRC as a member state, a role it will hold for the next three years.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský addressed the high-level segment at the opening of the session. During the session, Czechia engaged in interactive dialogues and general debates, particularly on Ukraine, Belarus, the DPRK, human rights defenders and the right to privacy.  As a member of the EU, Czechia co-sponsored four resolutions on the human rights situations in Belarus, Myanmar and the DPRK, as well as on freedom of religion and belief.

At the end of the session, the Council adopted 32 resolutions, of which 12 were adopted by vote and 20 by consensus. During the six-week session, the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in Geneva organised a side event on the human rights situation in the 11-year occupied Crimea. The Mission also supported two side events on Ukraine, one on Georgia and one on human rights defenders.
