The 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council began on Monday, June 16, and will run until July 9. Czechia will present a resolution on freedom of assembly and association, which it regularly prepares in cooperation with Indonesia, Lithuania, the Maldives, Iceland, and Chile. The goal of the resolution is to extend the mandate of the special rapporteur, and Czechia will also organize a side event to support our initiative.
Other national priority topics for this session include resolutions on civil society, protection of journalists, and new digital technologies and their impact on human rights. Regarding country specific initiatives, Czechia will traditionally focus on Eastern European countries, including support for the Ukrainian resolution extending the mandate of the monitoring mission operating in the country since 2014.
The summer session of the Council will also be attended by Young Delegates to the UN, who will organize their own side event on the topic of the impact of disinformation on youth. They will also prepare their own statements to the Council on education, freedom of expression, and climate change.
