Czech Youth Delegates at the UN

Czech UN Youth Delegates Giulia Cancellaro and Veronika Novotná spoke at the UN Human Rights Council on academic freedoms, Kateřina Špalková on climate. In addition, they met with representatives of a wide range of international, while part of the Czech programme was for the first time ever open to interested Youth Delegates from EU Member States

During busy three-days programme, 24-26 June, the UN Youth Delegates had a unique opportunity to compare the interests of Czech youth with their peers in other countries and to better understand the common challenges they face at the global level.

During the dialogue with Special Rapporteur on education at the Human Rights Council, Giulia Cancellaro and Veronika Novotná spoke on the topic of academic freedom, highlighting its importance in formal and informal education and recalling the role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in the human rights field. Climate delegate Kateřina Špalková prepared a video statement on the protection of human rights in the context of climate change.

Together with delegates from other EU countries, they met with a number of representatives of the international community, including the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), Human Rights Watch and the EU Delegation. They also visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The aim of the Czech UN Youth Delegates Programme is to create a bridge between young people and the UN. On the one hand, the initiative ensures/promotes the representation of Czech youth in this global organization, on the other one, it spreads awareness about the UN and its many agendas back home.
