Czechia elected to the Human Rights Council

On 10 May, Czechia was elected to the Human Rights Council after a seat in the Group of Eastern European States was vacated in April 2022.

The UN General Assembly elected Czechia to the Human Rights Council by 157 votes. Czechia thus became a Member effective immediately until 31 December 2023.

As promotion of human rights is key priority of Czech foreign policy, Czechia has pledged to work for the advancement of human rights in a fair and equal manner, collaborate in a transparent manner and in good faith with all States and cooperate with the United Nations Human Rights and advocate for its independence and impartiality.

Czechia has already been a Member of the Human Rights Council three times (2019-2021, 2006-2007 a 2011-2014).
