On 9 June 2026, Ambassador Karel Beran presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
During the meeting, Karel Beran, new Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations in Geneva, expressed his support for multilateralism based on effective international law and strong institutions. According to the new Permanent Representative, UN reform should be viewed as an opportunity, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the UN system is essential.
In response, Tatiana Valovaya stated that today’s world differs significantly from the circumstances in which the United Nations was founded in 1945, and that the current system must become more inclusive. It is necessary to give a voice to new actors, including non-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, regional organizations, academia, and youth.
