On Tuesday 11 June, Czech Permanent Mission to Geneva, in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), organised a roundtable for African and EU ITU Counsellors.
The roundtable focused on cyber resilience and security along with the connection to human rights’ principles to the standardisation of digital technologies (the so-called human-centric approach). These themes were coupled by a discussion on social and geopolitical implications of new technologies, particularly AI and quantum computing. The roundtable heard views on the lack of investment in basic infrastructure, various types of digital inequalities including the growing asymmetry between governments and technology companies. The intention of the roundtable was to demonstrate the importance of linking human rights with the development of technology standards.
