On 5 August, Ambassador Vaclav Bálek met with Kamal Kishore, the new Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction. The main topic was the Czech initiative in the field of new technologies in disaster risk reduction and resilience building.
The Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic in Geneva and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) are preparing an event on 5 September focusing on the use of digital technologies – both traditional satellites and seismographs, as well as state-of-the-art ones based on artificial intelligence, the internet of things and big data. The focus is particularly on prevention and minimizing the impact of disasters. Besides UNDRR, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is also a partner.
