The creation of the independent Czechoslovak state in 1918, traditionally marked as the national Day of the Czech Republic, was celebrated in the city centre of Manchester, in the historic Portico Library. The occasion was marked on Tuesday 15th October 2024 in the presence of Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Paul Andrews, representatives of Greater Manchester, local Consular Corps and other distinguished individuals.
In their remarks, Consul General Frous and Lord Mayor Andrews highlighted the importance of mutual understanding and the life of Czech community as a part of a more and more cosmopolitan atmosphere of the capital of the North West. Czechia will move into the spotlight in the region not only as it marks 35 years of the Velvet Revolution next month, but also in a longer term as the cooperation between Czech energy company ČEZ and Rolls Royce SMR grows stronger. The British company based in Manchester entered into a strategic partnership with the Czech energy giant in September 2024. It was an important next step on the path to a close collaboration between the Czech Republic and the UK in the field of civilian use of nuclear energy, moving the North West ever closer to the centre of attention of experts in field of small modular reactors.
