​Invitation to a poetry evening with Petr Hruška

The Consulate General in Manchester cordially invites you to a British-Czech poetry evening, taking place on Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 PM at Saul Hay Gallery (Castle Street, Manchester M3 4LZ).

 

Petr Hruška, one of the most acclaimed Czech contemporary poets, will present English translation of his latest collection of poems I Caught Sight of My Face (Spatřil jsem svou tvář). The book was illustrated by Jakub Špaňhel and translated by Joshua Mensch. The work delves into a profound and unsettling exploration of human nature and has been praised by literary critics for its lyrical precision and depth.

Petr Hruška is a Czech poet, prose writer, and literary historian, He has received numerous awards, including the 2012State Prize for Literature  for a collection of poems entitled Darmata, and the 2022 Magnesia Litera Award  for the presented collection Spatřil jsem svou tvář. Currently, Petr Hruška lives in Ostrava and works at the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He is considered one of the most significant Czech authors of his generation and his work has been translated into numerous languages.
