On Saturday, 5th July 2025, a traditional memorial event was held to mark the 85th anniversary of the arrival of Czechoslovak soldiers in the United Kingdom.
The event was organized by the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans and attracted numerous guests who came to commemorate the establishment of the Czechoslovak army in the UK, which took place in Cholmondeley in July 1940. The fifth Marquis of Cholmondeley granted permission for a camp to be established on his grounds for thousands of Czechoslovak soldiers, who trained there after their arrival in Great Britain and later participated in combat operations with the British army. Several distinguished guests attended the event, including representatives from the British army. During the memorial ceremony, children from Czech schools in Manchester and London performed the national anthems. Consul General David Frous laid a wreath in honor of the soldiers' memory. We extend our gratitude to the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans for organizing the event, especially to Mrs. Gerry Manolas and LtCol Nicholas Southward, for their efforts to preserve the legacy of Czechoslovaks who fought for freedom and democracy in the United Kingdom.
