Majáles is a spring celebration and traditional student festival organised each May in the countries of Central Europe. The Embassies of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in London used this opportunity to jointly commemorate the 100^th anniversary of the 1918 founding of Czechoslovakia and the recognition of the Czechoslovak National Council by the British government.

The rich program began with the speeches of the Ambassadors of the Czech and Slovak Republics, who, after warmly welcoming all guests, reminded the audience of the long common past of both countries and their present excellent relations. Following the national anthems, the Ambassadors presented awards to selected representatives of Czech and Slovak associations in the UK, for their long-term contribution to the development of Czech-British and Slovak-British relations.

During Majáles, individual associations presented themselves with information materials, small art activities for children and dance performances. Mrs. Sabrina Sečková, wife of the Czech Ambassador, handed over diplomas to the first graduates of the Czech School Without Borders London.

Throughout the whole event, the guests enjoyed a live music performance by the “Brno Radio Orchestra of Folk Instruments“ which was a fantastic success. The refreshments were served in the style of Czech and Slovak cuisines, drinks included Moravian wines and Pilsner Urquell beer.

We would like to thank the more than 300 guests for being with us on this special occasion to celebrate Majáles on a pleasant sunny afternoon in the company of friends, families and other compatriots.
