On 31 March 2025, Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan attended the Border Security Summit in London, which focused on current challenges in the area of external border protection and international cooperation on migration issues. The main discussion focused on the threats posed by criminal groups and networks that exploit migrants by smuggling them across borders for profit. Ministers discussed strengthening security measures and more effective exchange of information.
"Europe today faces major security challenges and it is therefore crucial that we work together as partners on innovative solutions to secure our borders. The Czech Republic is ready to actively contribute to a more effective protection of Europe's borders. We are also working to strengthen our own asylum and migration legislation to streamline the removal of people who pose a security risk and the return of those who do not receive asylum in our country. We want to adopt the amendment to the Migration Act as soon as possible in view of the international situation," said Vít Rakušan, Minister of the Interior.
The participants agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation between states in the area of external border protection and to intensify the exchange of information on migration flows. The conference also discussed the use of modern technologies, such as biometric systems and artificial intelligence, which can help identify people at risk in a timely manner and streamline control processes. Supporting countries facing the greatest migratory pressures and seeking joint action within the European Union and with third countries was also an important topic.
The Minister also met with the Irish Minister for Home Affairs, Jim O'Callaghan, and the UK Minister for Home Affairs, Ivette Cooper, to discuss possibilities for closer cooperation in the fight against smuggling and cyber threats.
