Mrs. Anita Moravec Gard, a representative of the Moravec family from the United States, came to London to search for records about her grandfather, Brigadier General František Moravec, who was the Commander of the Military Intelligence Service of the Czechoslovak Government-in-exile during WW2.
On 23 April 2018, Mrs. Moravec Gard was received by the Czech Ambassador, H. E. Libor Sečka, who was very pleased to have the opportunity to meet a granddaughter of a prominent personality in Czechoslovak history. He offered Mrs. Moravec Gard all the support and cooperation that the Embassy can give in her search in the local archives.
After leaving the Embassy of the Czech Republic, Mrs. Moravec Gard, together with the Czech Defence Attaché Colonel Jiří Niedoba, visited a nearby building where her grandfather lived and had an office while staying in London. In this building (Porchester Gate, Bayswater Rd, London W2 3HP), the Military Intelligence Service of the Czechoslovak Government-in-exile held meetings and planned the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. The most important members of Operation Anthropoid, Jan Kubiš and Jozef Gabčík, were present in the building several times and also had their military photographs taken here.
Mrs. Moravec Gard will, during her stay in the UK, also visit the town of Leamington Spa (Warwickshire), where there is a fountain dedicated to those Czechoslovak soldiers who took part in the assassination of Heydrich. You can read more about the fountain in this link:
