On Wednesday 5 February, Ambassador Marie Chatardová visited the Trevor Chadwick Memorial in Swanage.
Trevor Chadwick was a member of Sir Nicholas Winton's team that saved 669 mostly Jewish children from pre-war Czechoslovakia from almost certain death at the hands of the Nazis. While Sir Nicholas Winton is credited as the mastermind behind the operation, Trevor Chadwick was responsible for the selection of individual children and their safe departure from Prague's Central Station.
At the memorial, Ambassador Chatardová met the Mayor of Swanage, Mrs Tina Foster, and members of The Trevor Chadwick Memorial Trust. It is this organisation that has been responsible for the creation of the memorial and its installation in Swanage, where Chadwick lived before the war, in 2021. Unfortunately, the Ambassador was unable to attend the unveiling of the memorial in 2021, but she sent a video message to the event and her message is also included on its information board. You can read more about the visit in an article on the Swanage News website.
