From 27th until 30th September 2016 the Police President of the Czech Republic Tomas Tuhy paid a visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He became acquainted with the working environment of the Metropolitan Police, talked with representatives of Scotland Yard and attended the Czech Embassy National Day reception.
On the 28th September 2016, Major General Tomas Tuhy, along with Col. Marian Paštinský from the Czech Police Presidium and accompanied by members of the Czech Embassy visited one of the three bases of the Department of Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection of the Metropolitan Police. Relevant liaison officers gave the Czech delegation a briefing on the essence of the work of the department, which is responsible for providing protection mainly to diplomatic and government communities residing in London and which, only since 2015, also protects the Palace of Westminster (ie. the Parliament).
Maj. Gen. Tuhy briefly explained the character of the police service in the Czech Republic and mentioned projects which the Czech Police are currently running, including those at the international level. After leaving the base, the guests visited the Historical Museum of the Metropolitan Police. With a personal guided tour the Czech delegation was shown the most interesting and valuable artifacts of the museum collections, which are not ordinarily available for visitors to see.
The next day, the Czech Police President visited the Headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, Scotland Yard. He held a meeting with the Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Mr Craig Mackey. The topics discussed ranged from the possibilities of deepening the cooperation between the two police forces and the exchange of information, experiences with new technologies and procedures and ended with educational activities each force undertakes. Maj. Gen. Tuhy also asked relevant questions about the progress and details of the investigation into the recent murder of a Czech citizen in London and expressed the Czech Police readiness to give maximum cooperation regarding the ongoing criminal proceedings.
Later on the 29th September 2016, the delegation of the Czech Police Presidium, at the invitation of Ambassador Libor Sečka, attended the National Day reception at the Ambassador´s residence. Maj. Gen. Tomas Tuhy took the opportunity to award a British police officer of Czech Roma origin, Petr Torak, who operates successfully in the ranks of the Cambridgeshire Police (in 2015 the Queen awarded him with the Order of the British Empire) and granted him a commemorative plaque of the Police of the Czech Republic, together with a diploma, for valuable service to the Czech Roma community in the UK. In the evening the Czech delegation attended the Czech Embassy National Day concert for the expatriate community.
