On 25 September 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Lubomír Zaorálek, met with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson, who arrived to the Czech Republic for a working visit.
The Ministers exchanged their views on topics related to the United Kingdom exiting the European Union. "I am pleased that Theresa May in her speech last week in Florence stated that it is absolutely necessary to further cooperate in the field of defence, security and development aid. The Czech Republic has an enormous interest in such cooperation in the future", said Minister Lubomír Zaorálek after the meeting and added that the Czech Republic is also interested in maintaining unrestricted movement of goods between the two countries because the UK is the fourth largest export partner for the Czech Republic.
The Head of Czech Diplomacy reiterated to his British counterpart that it is important for the Czech Republic that the rights of Czech citizens in the UK would not be fundamentally limited after the UK leaves the EU. "Boris Johnson assured me that the rights of our citizens will not change after Brexit," added Minister Lubomír Zaorálek.
The Ministers also focused on some international political issues, such as North Korea and Libya and they discussed the current internal political situation ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic.
