Since the 1950s the Embassy of the Czechoslovak Republic has been located near Kensington Gardens. The building previous to the one the Embassy is currently in was at 6 - 7 Kensington Palace Gardens. The re-location to interconnected buildings at this prestigious address was certainly a good choice. At that time it was necessary to connect the two buildings so the interior dividing wall between them was demolished. A spectacular social space on the ground floor was created and used as a cinema and concert hall.
In the sixties, it was decided to move the Embassy and business representation of the former Ministry of Foreign Trade into new buildings a few dozen meters away, where the separate Embassies of the Czech and Slovak Republics now reside.
Both buildings served the Czechoslovak state for only a relatively short time between 1955 and 1970.
Once the present Embassy´s buildings were completed in 1970, Nos. 6 - 7 were vacated. Since then these buildings have been used firstly by the USSR and today serve as the Representation of the Russian Federation in London.
