Opening of the exhibition "Jan Palach 69" in Krško

On December 20, 2019, Deputy Ambassador Jan Beneš opened another installation of the travelling exhibition "Jan Palach 69" in Krško, which will be open in Krško Culture House until the end of January 2020.

The Slovenian public could see the exhibition about Jan Palach for the first time in January 2019 in Ljubljana. Following the positive critique by the Slovenians in Ljubljana the exhibition was moved to a number of other Slovenian cities, such as Maribor, Vipava, Radovljica, Krško and Bogenšperk Castle, which is one of the most important castles in Slovenia.

The exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of self-immolation of student Jan Palach. The key organizer of the project is the Czech-Slovenian Society from Brno, chaired by Mrs. Alena Šamonilová, who actively participates in the promotion of Czech culture in Slovenia and closely cooperates with the Czech Embassy in Ljubljana which supports the project “Jan Palach 69” from its beginnings in Slovenia.

The authors of the exhibition are historians Petr Blažek, Patrik Eichler and Jakub Jareš who are authors of the book with the same name “Jan Palach 69”.

The exhibition was opened by the Deputy Ambassador Jan Beneš in the presence of Miran Stanko, the mayor of the Municipality of Krško, and Mrs. Darja Planinc, the director of the Krško Culture House.

The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by cultural program performed by clarinetist Robert Pirc and pianist Martin Šušteršič. The event was moderated by Dr. Helena Rožman.

The interest of Slovenian cities and other institution in the exhibition "Jan Palach 69" shows that Czech history and Czech culture are not indifferent to the Slovenes, which is a very positive signal and motivation for further strengthening the Czech-Slovenian cultural relations and establishing new partnerships.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana is currently discussing the possibilities of installing the exhibition in other locations in Slovenia.
