Opening of the exhibition Czech Footprints in the Valvasor Library Krško

Ambassador Jiří Kuděla opened the exhibition "Czech Footprints", the heritage of Czech-Slovenian relations in Slovenia, on 7 November 2023 in the beautiful premises of the Valvasor Library in Krško

The exhibition, which has already been seen in a number of Slovenian cities, will be on display until the end of November in the beautiful premises of the Valvasor Library Krško. This library can be proud to be one of the best in the world.  During the year the library was one of four finalists in the prestigious global competition for the title Public Library of the Year 2023, held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The exhibition "Czech Traces" introduces the heritage of Czech-Slovenian relations in Slovenia and highlights the close ties between the two nations. It introduces a number of the Czech personalities who have influenced everyday life on Slovenian territory and made their mark on Slovenian history with their knowledge in various fields, from architecture, music, theatre, film, photography, sports to science and medicine.

At the opening ceremony, librarian Urška Šoštar guided the audience through the contents of the exhibition. The director of the library Urška Lobnikar Paunović and the mayor of Krško Janez Kerin also spoke about the exhibition as another piece in the mosaic of cooperation and traditionally good relations between the two nations. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana, Jiří Kuděla opened the exhibition. In his speech, he recalled the architect Jože Plečnik as the most famous symbol of mutual relations, whose remarkable work was adopted by both nations. He also invited everyone in the audience to discover the many other Czechs who worked in Slovenia and who are included in this exhibition.

Everyone enjoyed an excellent musical programme performed by a string quartet assembled by professors of the Krško School of Music, which performed compositions of Czech authors. The Embassy welcomed the visitors with Czech wine and delicious refreshments were prepared by the amazing ladies of the Women's Peasant Association Sremič (Aktiv kmečkih žena Sremič, AKŽ).

The 22-panel exhibition was created by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana in cooperation with the Prague Castle Administration.

The exhibition will be on display at the Valvasor Krško Library until 30 November 2023 and can also be found in the attachment below.
