Commemoration of the Armed Forces Day of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana

On 17 June 2025, the Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted a ceremonial reception on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day of the Czech Republic. The event took place in the lovely setting of the City Museum of Ljubljana.

The commemoration began with the ceremonial bringing of the Czech flag, presented by the Honor Guard of the Czech Army. In his opening speech, Ambassador Jiří Kuděla emphasized the special significance of this year’s celebration, as 2025 marks 80 years since the end of the World War II. He paid tribute to all those who gave their lives during this tragic period, both those who fought in resistance at home and the many who perished on battlefields around the world, from Europe to the Pacific.

The ambassador also acknowledged the sacrifice and bravery of soldiers from other nations namely Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Romanians, Bulgarians, and many others who contributed to the liberation of Czechoslovakia. He also expressed deep gratitude to Allied soldiers and airmen who fell on Czechoslovak territory in the fight for freedom.

The formal program continued with a musical performance by the Brass Quintet of the Military Band Olomouc, representing the musical unit of the Czech Army. The orchestra captivated the audience with a diverse repertoire, ranging from classical works to lively jazz and even rock arrangements.

After the concert, everyone got together in the museum courtyard for some casual socializing and networking.

The event was warmly received by attendees, who included members of the diplomatic corps, Slovenian officials, Czech fellow citizens, and other distinguished guests.
