Minister Lipavsky met his counterparts in the Bucharest Format

In Bratislava, on Thursday 31 March, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský met his counterparts of the Bucharest Format (B9) that includes Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Romania. Representatives of the USA and NATO were invited as guests.

Ministers discussed the Russian aggression and further support to Ukraine as well as implications of the conflict to the next NATO Strategic Concept and NATO adaptation.

Minister Lipavský stressed that the military and humanitarian support to Ukraine must be sustained and that the Russian aggression shall be properly reflected in the next NATO Strategic Concept to be adopted in Madrid in June. He called on NATO to respond to the radically altered security environment, including through a significant longer-term reinforcement of the defence posture at its Eastern Flank. Furthermore, NATO shall strengthen its political dimension and strive for further enhancing the NATO-EU synergies.

The B9 Foreign Ministers also invited their Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba to join the conference. Mr. Kuleba sent a video greeting to his colleagues, as he could not attend live for security reasons.
