On February 1, 2022, Deputy Minister Jiří Kozák received the non-resident Ambassador of the State of Qatar H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Thani. The main topic was the confirmation of the interest in further strengthening Czech-Qatar cooperation.
The Deputy Minister discussed with the Ambassador in particular the dynamic development of bilateral relations. Both parties are interested in continuing the political and security dialogue as well as in carrying out announced visits by the highest representatives. The early opening of the resident embassies of both countries will represent another important impetus for the development of bilateral relationship.
The Deputy Minister also discussed with the Ambassador the strengthening of energy security, which is one of the priorities of the new Czech government. Diversification of gas supply sources through cooperation with Qatar might be one of the solutions. The Czech side is also interested in attracting the attention of Qatari and other Gulf sovereign wealth funds and is preparing an investment forum in Prague in this regard.
The Deputy Minister wished the Qatari guest a lot of success in organizing the 2022 World Cup, which will take place during the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. The future Czech Embassy in Doha will execute the functions of the Local EU Presidency in Qatar at that time.
